NWCUA Bill to Advance Washington Credit Union Act Headed for Final Vote

Senate Bill 5302, comprised of recommendations from the Washington State Model Act Subcommittee, was pulled from the House Rules Committee Wednesday afternoon and placed on the House floor calendar.

The House previously passed the companion measure to SB 5302 unanimously.

Mark Minickiello, vice president of Legislative Affairs for the Northwest Credit Union Association (NWCUA) is confident SB 5302 will pass without objection as well.  “We are very appreciative of Representative Cathy Dahlquist (R-Enumclaw) for pulling our bill out of Rules and making it eligible for floor action.  This is the last step before our bill goes to the governor to be signed into law” Minickiello said.

The Washington Model Act Subcommittee provided recommendations for state legislative changes to the Washington Credit Union Act designed to advance the charter and operating environment for credit unions in the state.

After carefully comparing each section of the Washington Credit Union Act to other credit union charters, the subcommittee identified eight substantive changes. These issues were chosen for negotiation and introduction during the 2013 legislative session based both upon the seasoning of the issues and their perceived importance.
