With Gabel as Emcee, NCUF Presents Herb Wegner Memorial Awards

More than 800 credit union advocates and their families gathered in Washington, D.C., Monday night to honor the industry’s best examples of excellence at the Herb Wegner Memorial Awards dinner.

Denise Gabel, chief operating officer of the Northwest Credit Union Association (NWCUA), brought her signature blend of humor and insight to her role as Master of Ceremonies.

The gala event, presented annually by the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF), is now in its 25th year and is always a highlight of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC).

Honored last evening were:

  • Credit Union Miracle Day was recognized in the Outstanding Program category. This award recognized the nationally successful Cherry Blossom Run to benefit Credit Unions for Kids, a national charity raising funds for 170 Children’s Miracle Network hospitals that was founded in Oregon and Southwest Washington in 1986.
  • Hubert Hoosman took home honors in the Individual Achievement category. As president and CEO of Vantage Credit Union in St. Louis, Mo., Hoosman has successfully guided the credit union through growth and innovation, but never lost sight of his commitment to community service and the development of young professionals.
  • Rick Craig, retired president and CEO of America First Credit Union in Utah, was honored in the Lifetime Achievement category. More than 50 members of Craig’s family traveled to Washington by bus to see him win the honor.
