Solarity Credit Union Positioned Among Yakima’s Mortgage Lending Leaders

According to figures released last week, Yakima County-based Solarity Credit Union has become one of the top mortgage lenders in Central Washington after issuing 652 mortgage loans in 2012—just shy of the 696 issued by the region’s top lender, according to an analysis by Fidelity Title Co.

Solarity is not the only credit union capturing a growing chunk of the mortgage lending market. Credit union first mortgage originations increased 36 percent from January through September of last year, according to Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Economics and Statistics. CUNA economists expect credit union first mortgage originations to reach a record high in 2013 after exceeding $100 billion in 2012.

Solarity’s bid to become the premier lender in Yakima and Kittitas comes as a direct result of its extensive portfolio. The credit union offers a variety of home loans, ranging from conventional mortgages, jumbo and construction loans to manufactured home financing and First-Time Home Buyer programs. A press release issued by the credit union cited fewer fees, competitive rates and lower closing costs than the competition, as well as local loan decisions, processing and servicing, as primary drivers of Solarity’s mortgage lending growth.

The news comes just weeks after Solarity was  awarded The Business Excellence Award by the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce, an award presented quarterly to a business or organization that has achieved excellence in customer focus and innovation, employee treatment, training, respect, and community involvement—and is characterized by total quality in all areas.

When asked in the award application to “describe your passion or commitment to meeting your customers’ needs and exceeding your customers’ expectations,” Solarity responded, “Solarity” is inspired by our community; the energy of our people, the abundance of our land, and the opportunities that are all around us. That’s why we are involved in the community in more ways than just offering financial services. We are committed to empowering people to reach life’s most important goals, whatever those goals may be from a first home to a new car or free checking account.

Winners of the quarterly award, which was presented at the chamber’s General Membership Luncheon on Jan. 14, will be voted on by members to choose the recipient of the “Annual Business Excellence Award” at the yearly Chamber Awards presentation.
