Senior Network Engineer

Position Summary:

The primary role of the Senior Network Engineer is to administer, maintain, monitor, repair and optimize the LAN/WAN. Research, analyze, develop, test, and recommend innovative ways to use existing and new information technologies, as well as enhancing network security; review newly proposed Information Technology systems and network design and configuration changes to ensure compliance with internal security policies, standards and best practices. Monitor and maintain SQL and other databases for optimal performance. Ensure compliance with SQL server and application tool licensing. Install, upgrade, configure, and tune network access to databases (i.e. SQL*Net, ODBC, etc).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administer, maintain, monitor, and repair the Credit Union’s Local Area Network (LAN) and/or Wide Area Network (WAN) and all peripheral hardware, data communications and software. Diagnose and assist in resolving network implementation and configuration.

Install, upgrade, configure and administer MS Sharepoint environment including connections to databases and recommending ways to use Sharepoint for business efficiencies.

Administer and maintain all telecommunications equipment and services, including but not limited to, T1 circuits, analog telephone lines, and digital Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) telephone system.

Assist in the design, planning and evaluation of the Credit Union’s information systems by recommending solutions to the Vice President/CIO. Ensure effective project coordination with all involved parties. Participate in implementing, measuring, and improving the delivery of products and services to ensure effective use of the Credit Union’s resources.

Monitor equipment to detect errors that signal malfunction in communications software or hardware.  Conduct diagnostics to read code or determine specifications of communications lines.

Collaborate with vendor for new installation, repairs, and maintenance of the Credit Union’s telecommunications infrastructure, systems, and related services.

Coordinate user problem resolution with other resources/personnel, and report recurring problems.

Provide expertise when needed to repair malfunctioning systems or to perform systems configuration changes or upgrades that must be accomplished at times when no users are on the system.

Collaborate with appropriate personnel to assist in the development, execution, and maintenance of the disaster recovery and business continuity plan.

Provide installation updates, maintenance, modification, repairs, and troubleshooting support for computer hardware, software, phones, and automated service delivery systems.

Install, configure, and maintain Windows and Linux Operating System servers.

Perform preventative maintenance and back-up/recovery activities.

Program, apply, and install upgrades for new technologies.

Collaborate with third-party vendor to conduct thorough vulnerability tests, risk assessments, internal security audits (that include reviewing security logs and user privileges), and prepare for external audits and exams.

Ensure data, network, and system security by performing routine system and data backups. Coordinate scheduled assessments of security posture and provide direction to the resolution of security vulnerabilities.  Effectively communicate security posture to management and governing agencies as necessary.

Assist IT Manager in evaluating and planning security initiatives which include but are not limited to, researching security platforms, overseeing security coding practices, and conducting risk assessments and determining mitigation steps.

Install, upgrade, document and maintain network security infrastructure as well as relevant hardware and software infrastructure to support the development, maintenance, and advancement of the World Wide Web site and Internet banking system, Intranet system, and Corporate E-mail system.

Serve as a resource to project teams, as well as all network subscribers; troubleshoot hardware, software, electronic communication, and network problems.

Assist with special projects related to field of expertise, as assigned.

Assist with set up and configure PC’s for Credit Union staff.

Update application databases as needed.

Perform moderate analysis and applications programming, as assigned.

Keep apprised, adhere to, and demonstrate compliance with current state and federal regulations/laws, inclusive of the Bank Secrecy Act as well as Credit Union policies and procedures.

Update and maintain policies and procedures, and design documents for the use of technology solutions and Credit Union data. Recommend changes as needed. Ensure that policies and procedures reflect compliance with applicable state and federal regulations/laws and are communicated to staff as appropriate.

Create, enforce and maintain Credit Union data security policies.

Maintain control and access to computer equipment and data.

Ensure the proper security of the building and premises during all after-hours duties.

Lead and set example in communicating and reinforcing the Credit Union’s culture and values.

Contribute to the success of the Credit Union by complying and ensuring a staff capable of providing superior service according to Sound Credit Union’s Service Promise.

Maintain competency base knowledge with respects to profession through a variety of means such as seminars, networks, courses, and reading. Keep abreast of local and national trends, current issues, and required competencies.

Ensure the development, implementation, and maintenance of operational procedures and cross training throughout the department to maximize efficiency.

Maintain maximum security over valuables on hand.  Adhere to established security procedures to ensure Credit Union security is maintained at all times.

Recognize situations, which because of risks or hazards involved, are beyond his/her limits and directs them to the appropriate person.

Maintain ongoing communication with supervisor, informing him/her of all pertinent problems, irregularities, new developments, changes and other important information within area of responsibility. 

Maintain a professional and courteous attitude with all people, including fellow employees, members, management, Board Members and outside vendors. Cooperate with other branch/department personnel to ensure a “team effort” and “prompt member service” are consistently practiced.

Maintain confidentiality in performing assignments relative to any information received directly or indirectly.  Ensure that all information and transactions regarding Credit Union members are kept confidential.

Project a positive image of the Credit Union by maintaining department surroundings that reflect the Credit Union’s commitment to provide a friendly, respectful, courteous and professional business environment for all Credit Union members. Maintain cleanliness and security of work area, desk, equipment, etc. Adhere to Credit Union attire standards.

Maintain current knowledge of Credit Union philosophy, plus all Credit Union products and services.

Demonstrate compliance with all State and Federal banking regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act.

Comply with Credit Union policies and procedures.

Contribute to efficient Credit Union operations by performing duties accurately and in a timely manner.

Read, comprehend and apply information in technical and related publications, manuals and various other documents.

Compose letters, reports, and other information using proper sentence structure, grammar, and spelling in adherence with Sound Credit Union’s standard formatting.

Prepare reports as requested by Management.

Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

Report to work on time and as scheduled.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/TRAINING/LICENSING

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:  Three years’ successful, increasingly responsible experience in network analysis, design, implementation and support, and management in a multi-site network environment; successful project management experience; plus two years’ of successful, progressively responsible related experience administering SQL Server Databases required.

Education/Training: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Database Development Information Systems Management or related field from an accredited college or university.

License or certificate: Microsoft Certification preferred; Cisco certification preferred.  If not currently certified, willing to certify with Microsoft on Networking and/or SQL within one year of employment. Must be bondable.
