The Search Begins for the Next Emerging Credit Union Leader

Great leaders are constantly learning new practices, making and fulfilling challenging commitments, and serving as stewards for the community. In addition to providing direction and guidance, truly great leaders are also on a constant quest for improvement, both by requesting and accepting relevant feedback and by raising the bar for those around them.

Often these skills are seen as intangible, as things that come naturally or not at all. Often overlooked is the fact that great leaders are not simply born, but work constantly to cultivate and develop a leadership style that will inspire colleagues to follow and engage no matter the issue or challenge.

The Emerging Leadership Program is a unique offer in the credit union movement. Rather than simply waiting for his or her leadership presence to materialize, each participant in the program has a unique opportunity to proactively enhance the growth and emergence of untapped potential as a leader.

The program is broken up into three different three-day sessions—one in late March, another in June, and a third in September. Attendees receive individual attention through one-on-one executive coaching, leadership assessments and development planning, and instructors and mentors provide genuine support and feedback on how their own self can best be integrated with the leadership qualities needed today and in the future.

This program is an incredible opportunity for participants to cultivate their career, and through the 2013 Next Emerging Leaders Contest, one lucky person will get to go tuition-free!

About the 2013 Next Emerging Leaders Contest

The Next Emerging Leader Winner will be asked to be an ambassador of the Emerging Leaders Program, and share their experience with their peers. The winner will have the opportunity to work with our Anthem editor on five articles (one per week of class along with two others before or after the course begins). We will also follow up with the winner 6-12 months after the program concludes to see how the experience has affected their career and credit union.

Contest Timeline:

  1. Accepting Nominations: Jan. 23–Feb. 14, 2013
    Nominations are open for any credit union employee on the rise. You can nominate a co-worker, employee, boss, or peer from within the credit union space, or nominate yourself! Nominees will be asked to create a short YouTube video to introduce themselves and explain how they would benefit from taking part in the Emerging Leaders Program.
  2. Three Finalists Selected: Feb. 15, 2013
    A panel of judges will evaluate and score each nomination based the applicant’s reason for wanting to attend the Emerging Leading Program, as well as on the benefit of the program for the specific applicant’s career and credit union.
  3. Voting for the Top 3: Feb. 15–28, 2013
    Voting will open to the public, giving nominees two weeks to rally their co-workers, peers, friends and family to vote for them.
  4. Winner Announced: March 1, 2013
    Votes will be tallied, and the winner will be announced!
