Mortgage Loan Officer

Summary

This outside sales position will assist members and potential members with regard to credit union mortgage loan products and services.  Mortgage loan origination tasks include, but are not limited to: seeking and finding potential mortgage borrowers; reviewing, understanding, and providing preliminary mortgage disclosures; assisting lending staff with loan processing, closing and funding; cross selling and recommending other credit union loan products and services that are best suited to fulfill the needs of the member.  This is an overtime exempt position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Actively solicit and promote mortgage loan leads with members and potential members outside branch offices
  2. Assist, advise and interview members and potential members with originating loan applications for all mortgage related products and services.
  3. Assist credit union lending staff, particularly processors and underwriters to gather all necessary documents and information from the borrower in an effort to approve and disburse in-house mortgage loans, HELOC loans and secondary market real estate applications within the limits set by management and credit union policy.
  4. Provide financial counseling to members, with ability to evaluate the member’s financial condition and suggest alternative plans to create a better financial standing for the member
  5. Maintain absolute confidentiality with regard to any and all member and potential member information and documentation, ensuring that all member information is secure at all times.
  6. Promote and maintain a thorough understanding of credit union products and services and aspire to reach assigned production goals.
  7. Participate with Branch Manager when requested and lending team in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with real estate agencies, brokers, title companies and other businesses in the community.
  8. Properly and accurately disclose to members rates and fees for all accounts and loans, based on Rate and Fee Schedules.
  9. Provide assistance to lending staff to prepare Direct Deposit, Payroll and Pre-authorized Funds Transfer forms as needed to complete loan.
  10. Understands compliance issues and attends training as they relate to their position, including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, US Patriot Act, RESPA, etc.
  11. Be familiar with industry changes, loan products offered by competitors, and make suggestions to help create a marketing approach for WFCU to promote and provide members a sound mortgage lending program.

Miscellaneous Duties

  1. Understand the purpose and importance of deeds of trust, title policies, real estate insurance forms, appraisals, etc.
  2. Secure loan records and supplies at the end of the day
  3. Maintain a tidy, professional work area and assist in keeping all work spaces professional and presentable.
  4. Be familiar with the Credit Union Loan Procedures Manual
  5. Be familiar with the Policy Manuals and respect the Board of Directors’ policy decisions
  6. Be familiar with Security Manual and procedures for burglary and fire, participating in planned drills
  7. Respect the security restrictions for daily transactions, realizing these restrictions protect our members and our employees from being victims of embezzlement
  8. Perform all other duties which may be assigned by management

Qualifications and Requirements

  1. Understand and support the mission statement and core values of WFCU
  2. Ability to spend 70% of working time outside the branches developing sales leads
  3. Maintain a professional and pleasant demeanor
  4. Ability to work on several tasks simultaneously, in a fast paced environment
  5. Conduct loan interviews with members and generate initial loan documents using the installed software system on a laptop, to be evaluated based on assigned monthly goals
  6. Ability to understand basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and decimals
  7. Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
  8. Be genuinely interested in people, with abilities to deal with different people and personalities
  9. Ability to work as, and contribute effectively to, a team
  10. Treat members and employees with utmost courtesy, efficiency, integrity and professionalism
  11. Ability to use sound and mature judgment
  12. Ability to operate basic office machines, including 10-key adding machines, typewriter, PC and use various software
  13. General typing, filing and computer input
  14. Participate in workshops, training meetings, seminars or college classes as directed by management
  15. Ability to report to work in other branches as assigned when necessary

Education Requirements

  1. High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. At least three years and mortgage loan experience, including first mortgages, secondary market mortgages and HELOC loans.
  3. Have at least two year sales and/or public relations experiences.

  10. Continuous exposure to hazard of robbery (training provided to minimize risk)

  13. Frequently exposed to risk of radiation from computer monitor, until such time as this risk is ruled out as contributing to radiation exposure
  14. Occasional exposure to common chemicals used within an office environment
  15. Potential risk of electric shock when working with electric equipment
