Autoland Awards Third Charitable Grant to Credit Union-Sponsored Organization

Autoland Inc., the nation’s largest credit union auto-buying service, awarded a charitable grant of $2,000 to the Center for Comprehensive Care and Diagnosis of Inherited Blood Disorders (CIBD).

The CIBD, nominated by Downey, Calif.-based Financial Partners Credit Union, is part of the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and is committed to identifying and treating those afflicted with Sickle Cell disease.

“Like our previous charitable grant recipients, the CIBD is an organization that provides tremendous community service,” said Autoland President Jeff Martin. “The difference in this case is that the nominating credit union has an employee whose four-year old daughter, Jordin, suffers from Sickle Cell. The grant funds will be put toward a fundraising effort in Jordin’s name to purchase a blood diagnostic machine that will help the center identify and treat the disease in both children and adults.”

Diane Nugent, chief of hematology at CHOC and founder of the CIBD, stressed the need for greater awareness and proactive treatment of Sickle Cell.

“While the frequency of the disorder is on the rise, education and treatment is relatively low,” Nugent said. “The disease affects multiple ethnicities, and these grant funds will help our mission of raising community awareness and providing therapy for patients to lead healthier lives.”

Credit unions have until Dec. 28 to nominate a local charity for Autoland’s fourth-quarter charitable grant. The application is available along with additional details on the Resources section of Autoland’s website.

A charity may also complete an application on its own behalf. To be eligible for a grant, a charitable organization must have a non-profit IRS 501(c)(3) status and be located in California, Oregon, Washington or Nevada. For more details, contact Marcia Francisco at 800.234.6999, ext. 4427.
