Historic NWCUA, CUES Partnership Strengthens Local Influence

A partnership between the Northwest Credit Union Association (NWCUA) and the Northwest Council of the Credit Union Executives Society (CUES) will give Northwest credit unions increased access to high-level professional development resources and networking opportunities for their CEOs and executives.
“Combining our expertise and our ability to bring national-level training and dialogue to the region is a win-win,” said NWCUA President and CEO Troy Stang. “We will be able to provide the highest quality of programming to executive events.”
Both organizations share a focus on development of credit union leaders and the advancement of the credit union charter. The partnership, announced yesterday, will offer immediate benefits to member credit unions, with three joint events for executives already scheduled for 2013.
“This partnership will give credit union executives the best of the two organizations,” said Dave Spaulding, chairman of the Northwest CUES Council.
The Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL) formed a similar partnership with the CUES Michigan Council in 2011 after a CUES-sponsored reception for the MCUL and its affiliates in 2011 sparked the idea for a coordinated approach to the planning and promotion of educational events for Michigan’s credit unions. The result has been an increased CUES presence at the league’s annual convention and on its educational calendar, with the state’s credit union executives having access to more high-level training and networking events.
Partnership events planned in the Northwest next year will take credit union professionals on a deep dive into regulation, legislation and other operational challenges, while providing networking opportunities and promoting unity throughout the Northwest credit union movement.
Among the key 2013 events for credit union leaders are the Leadership Symposiums scheduled in April and November. These one-day events offer credit union leaders the opportunity for open dialogue with regulators and legislators, allowing for stronger relationships and shared concerns.
The Executive Summit, scheduled for July 24-26 at Sunriver Resort in Bend, Ore., honors a long-standing CUES tradition of combining high-level learning and dialogue with networking activities that promote credit union cooperation.
“The Oregon/Washington CUES event in Sunriver is one of my favorite conferences,” said Lesley Carrell, senior vice president of marketing for Fibre Federal Credit Union. “It’s a great regional event with top-notch speakers and ample opportunities for networking and professional development. I wouldn’t miss it!”
