Compliance Question of the Week

Do certified checks ever go stale?

No. Unlike bread, certified checks do not go stale, and you must pay them no matter how old they are.

However, they do fall under the uncollected property rules. In both Washington and Oregon you must escheat the sum payable if the check has been outstanding for more than three years.
