Portland Hotel Fire Unrelated to NWCUA Annual Convention

A five-alarm fire in North Portland early Sunday morning destroyed a vacant building that was formerly a Red Lion hotel, but the incident is not expected to impact the Northwest Credit Union Association’s (NWCUA’s) 2012 Convention and Annual Business Meeting.

A federal investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. The hotel had been vacant since 2005 but was still being used as a storage facility for mattresses and furniture.

Convention is scheduled for Oct. 2-4 at the Hilton Hotel in Vancouver, Wash. While lodging at the Hilton is now full, arrangements have been made for Convention attendees at the Red Lion Hotel on the River in Portland. Attendees may make reservations by calling 800.733.5466 by Sept. 11 and identifying themselves as members of the NWCUA Group. A contract shuttle service has been established to transport attendees in the area throughout Convention hours.

This year’s Convention boasts an array of speakers and presenters as innovative and thought-provoking as the Northwest credit union community itself. Keynote speakers include Neil Goldman, senior partner of Goldman Consulting & Strategy, Inc.; Arnold Kuijpers, director of corporate affairs for Rabobank Nederland; and Jeff Russell, who serves as senior advisor for The Members Group, president and CEO of TMG Financial Services, and chief strategy officer for Affiliates Management Company.

Discounted Convention registration is available until Friday, Sept. 14.
