Connection Credit Union President and CEO Scott Prior and Kitsap Credit Union President and CEO Elliot Greg met with Derek Kilmer, Democratic candidate to represent Washington’s 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, on Friday and presented him with a $5,000 contribution from the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC).
The Northwest Credit Union Association (NWCUA) announced its support of State Senator Derek Kilmer (D-26) to replace the retiring Rep. Norm Dicks (D) in the House. In addition to serving the people of the 26th Legislative District in the Washington State Senate, Kilmer is currently the vice president of the Pierce County Economic Development Board.
Earlier this year, at the Washington Governmental Affairs Conference in Olympia, Kilmer was awarded the NWCUA Anchor Award for his demonstrated and ongoing support of the credit union movement. Kilmer was the prime sponsor of the Association’s prize-linked savings legislation, which passed in May 2011.
Kilmer recently addressed the Washington Governmental Affairs Committee about his campaign and his priorities, indicating an understanding of the powerful role credit unions can play in revitalizing the economy.
Washington’s 6th Congressional District encompasses the Olympic Peninsula, most of the Kitsap Peninsula and most of the city of Tacoma. Dicks, a Democrat from Bremerton, has been the 6th District representative since 1977.
