Lane County Credit Unions Deliver $150,000 Promise to Sacred Heart Medical Center

FEDERAL WAY, Wash.; BEAVERTON, Ore.—Beating their Credit Unions for Kids two-year Children’s Miracle Network fundraising goal of $150,000 by completing it in just one-and-a-half years, the credit unions of Lane County built two Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) rooms and added an identifying plaque to an upgraded waiting area at Sacred Heart Pediatric Medical Center in Eugene, Ore.

The additional NICU rooms and waiting area will add comfort and increase the Medical Center’s capacity to care for the youngest and most vulnerable patients it serves, while helping their families find calm during what is often the most agonizing moments of their lives.

“We are extremely grateful to our credit unions as they accomplish yet another incredible fundraising endeavor to support Children’s Miracle Network at Sacred Heart Medical Center,” says Alexa Sharps, Children’s Miracle Network Director at Sacred Heart Medical Center. “Their passion and ongoing support has allowed us to make a significant impact in the lives of children that we treat, and the completion of their $150,000 pledge this year continues to provide our caregivers with the tools they need to save lives.”

Credit unions of Lane County promised in 2010 to raise the $150,000 needed for the Children’s Hospital, one of four Northwest Children’s Hospitals served by Credit Unions for Kids. By delivering on the promise early, it means that hospital planning on other improvement projects can also move forward early.

Credit unions are founded on the premise of people helping people, which according to Mandy Jones of Oregon Community Credit Union in Eugene, makes the partnership between the credit unions in Lane County and Sacred Heart Medical Center through the Credit Unions for Kids program natural.

“It is such a great feeling to know we have made a difference for kids in our community,” says Jones. “This partnership allows credit unions to make a difference in our community by creating the opportunity for children of local families to experience amazing care and help them live a happy normal life.”

Credit Unions for Kids is a nonprofit collaboration of credit unions, chapters, leagues/associations and business partners from across the country, engaged in fundraising activities to benefit 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Adopted as our movement’s charity of choice, credit unions are the 3rd largest sponsor of CMN Hospitals.
