Credit Union Gathering to Bring National Personalities, 800 Attendees to Western Washington
April 2, 2012
Tacoma, WA. — In an era of declining budgets and increasing regulatory pressure, U.S. credit unions are looking at all options in their never ending quest to serve their members. Pacific Northwest credit unions later this month will come together to discuss those options and gain a deeper understanding of the current operating environment at the first convention and business meeting of the Northwest Credit Union Association (NWCUA). It will bring a nationally recognized slate of speakers to Tacoma’s Hotel Murano, Sept. 20-22.
In addition to Michael Barr, Former U.S. Department of Treasury’s Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions and key architect of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, Credit Union National Association (CUNA) President Bill Cheney will be on hand to discuss topics affecting the U.S. economy and the credit union industry.
Barr currently teaches finance and finance related law, and is co-founder of the International Transactions Clinic. Additionally, Barr served as Treasury Secretary Robert E. Rubin’s Special Assistant, as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, as Special Advisor to President Bill Clinton, as a special advisor and counselor on the policy planning staff at the State Department, and as a law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice David H. Souter.
Cheney just finished his first year as CUNA’s helmsman after serving four years as President and CEO of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues. Cheney has 25 years of credit union experience beginning in 1985, which took him from his home state of Texas to California, and now Washington D.C. He has been involved in credit union at nearly every operational level and disciplines.
Other speakers include:
- Susan Ershler: Business Executive, Mt. Everest Climber, Author;
- Salim Ismail: Investor, Entrepreneur, Director of Singularity University, Former Yahoo Vice President and Head of Brickhouse, Yahoos internal ideas factory;
