Linn-Co Federal Credit Union received national recognition in Washington, D.C., Wednesday for its KidzShop program assisting underprivileged school children. The credit union received second place honors during the prestigious Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Awards Reception.
Dora Maxwell, a credit union movement pioneer, established a legacy organizing credit union volunteers to improve living standards for the poor and needy. Her namesake awards program recognizes extraordinary social responsibility outreach by credit unions.
Linn-Co’s renowned KidzShop program provided food, new clothing and backpacks filled with school supplies to over 300 school children in the community. The outreach also included free, one-year memberships to local Boys & Girls Clubs in the region.
The credit union was the only Northwest financial institution to place in the National Dora Maxwell Awards competition. The award was presented as a delegation of 4,000 credit union supporters is in Washington to lobby Congress during CUNA’s annual Government Affairs Conference (GAC).
“What an honor, and what a great time to be in the spotlight with so many thousands of credit union advocates in Washington to share in the moment,” said RoxAnne Kruger, senior vice president for the Northwest Credit Union Association (NWUCA). “Linn-Co created a program that can flourish for years to come.”
The NWCUA entered Linn-Co into the national competition after the credit union won first-place honors in the NWCUA’s regional awards program.
