Co-op Launches Mobile App to Log Volunteers’ Hours

Cabot Creamery Cooperative has launched Reward Volunteers, the first mobile app in the United States that tracks and rewards volunteers and the organizations they serve.

The free app is one of the International Year of Cooperatives‘ initiatives developed under the auspices of the National Cooperative Business Association’s International Year of the Cooperatives Steering Committee, which includes the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) among its members.

Volunteers select the organization for which they are volunteering, log the length of time volunteered, and post their efforts on Facebook. They can win prizes for themselves and nonprofit organizations by increasing their logged hours, sharing post/photos, sending e-mails, and securing Facebook “likes” for their volunteer posts.

Cabot developed Reward Volunteers in collaboration with Chalo Inc., a social business start-up, and organizations can participate for free by embedding the Reward Volunteers web widget on their website. The app is available through iTunes and can be used on the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and as a web-based program on RewardVolunteer.coop.
