LoveMyCreditUnion.org is a Ticket to Consumer Savings, Non-Interest Income—and Possibly a Date

As if there weren’t already enough reasons to declare enduring affection for your credit union, a new website called LoveMyCreditUnion.org has given love-struck members one more reason to swoon.
LoveMyCreditUnion.org is the online home of Invest In America, a program that leverages membership numbers to offer a well-rounded consumer purchasing program to credit union members. Through partnerships with a wide variety of companies, credit union members can now save hundreds of dollars a year—possibly enough for a year-end vacation, which can also conveniently be purchased at a discount at LoveMyCreditUnion.org.
The site’s categories of products and services are similar to what Overstock, Amazon or any general merchandiser might carry: shoes and apparel; books, music and movies; home and garden supplies; sports and outdoor equipment; and more. Specific savings vary from product to product, but in many instances, consumers can purchase the discounted product online and then go directly to a local retailer to pick up their new purchase.
“Having a local return or service option is nice for electronics,” said Craig Reed, Sales and Marketing Associate for the Northwest Credit Union Association (NWCUA), “or for any product where a significant investment is made.”
And it’s not just consumer products that LoveMyCreditUnion.org is offering. Credit union members also get an inside discount line on financial services, as well as gourmet grocery, internet and wireless services.
And for the single—or soon-to-be-single—credit union member, LoveMyCreditUnion.org has opportunities to find a little love through discounted dating services.
“Credit union members tend to appreciate saving money and getting good value,” Reed said. “LoveMyCreditUnion.org is a simple way to add value to membership at no expense to the credit union.”
Invest In America also encourages credit unions to take an active role in the marketing of their various discount programs, which range from discounted cell phone service with Sprint to discounts on General Motors vehicles and much more. In return for the minimal marketing requirements, credit unions earn non-interest income. A few Northwest credit unions earned more than $20,000 through the Sprint program alone in 2011.
Credit union members must register at LoveMyCreditUnion.org to verify their membership and receive their discounts.
