CFPB Director Cordray to Participate in CUNA Webinar

Newly-installed Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Richard Cordray will address credit unions during a free National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) webinar on Feb. 8.

The webinar, set to begin at 12 p.m. PST, will feature updates on the NCUA’s Regulatory Modernization Initiative, corporate credit union resolution and the CFPB. Interested participants can register online.

During the live webinar, participants will be able to electronically submit questions about any topic relating to the credit union system or the CFPB.  An archived version of the webinar will be posted to the NCUA’s website approximately two weeks after the event.

“At NCUA, we share CFPB’s commitment to protecting consumers, and we are honored that Director Cordray has accepted my invitation to participate in NCUA’s first virtual town hall meeting of 2012,” NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz said. “Credit union officials have expressed an extraordinary interest in CFPB’s regulatory priorities; they often ask me how CFPB will affect credit unions. This webinar will provide the first opportunity for credit unions to ask the CFPB leader directly.”

Project Zip Code Webinar to Help Credit Union Advocacy

In preparation for what is sure to be a busy election year with active legislative sessions at the federal and state levels, every credit union is being asked to update its Project Zip Code (PZC) numbers if it has not already done so in the last six months. To help reach this goal, the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) is hosting a Project Zip Code educational webinar for credit unions on Jan. 25, 2012, at 12 p.m. PST. 

“Project Zip Code is an invaluable tool we use in meetings with our federal and state legislators,” said Jennifer Wagner, director of legislative advocacy for the Northwest Credit Union Association (NWCUA).“It’s a quick and easy program for credit unions to implement yet produces vital information to share with our legislators that can’t be matched by any other industry.”

Project Zip Code is a software program created by CUNA to match credit union members to their legislative districts at both the federal and state levels. With new districts being created as a result of the 2012 census, it is more important than ever for credit unions to participate in PZC. Credit union professionals can register for the webinar on CUNA’s website.

This webinar will help users learn the basics of the Project Zip Code program, go over a live installation and upload, and demonstrate the marketing tools available to credit unions through PZC. In addition, the webinar will teach participants how to access and use both of the current Project Zip Code grassroots websites. Please note that space for the webinar is limited. Should you be locked out of registering for the live version, please register for the archived version, which will be available on Jan. 27, 2012.

If you are familiar with Project Zip Code, participation in the webinar is not required to update your numbers. You can install and update your data using the Project Zip Code website.
