BECU Temporary Member Assistance Specialist

The Member Assistance Specialist is responsible for working collaboratively with members experiencing financial hardships in order to arrive at solutions that enable them to make repayment of outstanding debts and mitigate losses to the credit union.  This person must be able to use independent judgment to determine the best course of action to minimize loss to the credit union.  In situations where loan modification options are not pursued, the Member Assistance Specialist is also responsible for evaluating requests for the short sale of collateral, settlement agreements, deed in lieu of foreclosure or foreclosure.  The Member Assistance Specialist is also an escalation source for Loss Management personnel requiring additional support and loss mitigation expertise.  The Member Assistance Specialist must have strong lending and analytical skills, and be knowledgeable of loss mitigation, and credit underwriting and analysis activities.

This is a non benefited temporary position.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Proficient PC skills (Microsoft Office), with the ability to learn new software.
  2. Excellent oral and written skills to effectively communicate in the English language.
  3. Excellent analytical skills.
  4. Ability to work independently and as a team member, while using discretion in decision making and sound judgment in problem solving.
  5. Ability to present a professional image when working with members, co-workers, and business partners.
  6. Good interpersonal skills to ensure issues are handled in a fair, consistent manner.
  7. Ability to change within working responsibilities, be it internal, market, or regulatory driven.
  8. Ability to prioritize tasks, and work well under deadlines.
  9. Ability to exercise confidentiality and discretionary judgment.
  10. Effective leadership and negotiation skills.
  11. Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of BECU’s Employee Handbook and Management Reference Manual.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Additional hours as necessary to accomplish objectives, goals, and projects.
  2. Vision (or corrected) to normal range.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Member Assistance Specialist
    1. Associates degree in Business, or equivalent work or educational experience.
    2. Minimum five years’ experience in lending and/or loan collections, to include underwriting and analysis experience.
  2. Senior Member Assistance Specialist
    1. Associates degree in Business, or equivalent work or educational experience.
    2. Minimum five years’ experience in lending and/or loan collections, to include underwriting and analysis experience.  A minimum of 3 years’ experience with an emphasis on Mortgage lending.
    3. Experience analyzing complex loan requests of all loan types, including mortgage, involving borrowers experiencing financial hardships, facing foreclosure, bankruptcy and/or loan charge-off.
