Generate Non-Interest Revenue Through the Sprint Credit Union Member Discount Program

For Northwest Credit Union Association members that are not offering their members the Sprint Credit Union Discount: now is the time. The first year a credit union is on the program is pro-rated, but the next promotional year starts Oct. 1, 2011, so signing up now would make you a 100 percent participant for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. Participation agreements and statement insert orders must be sent no later than Sept. 12, 2011, in order to make your credit union’s October quarterly mailing.
The agreement can be found at the Love My Credit Union website. Simply print, complete, sign and fax the agreement directly to 888.340.3605.
Credit unions promoting the Sprint Credit Union Member Discount Program ended last year on a happy note, as they received their annual incentive checks for marketing the program to their members. Based on last year’s incentive pool, a 10,000-member credit union would have earned $4,133. The Sprint Credit Union Member Discount Program offers these marketing incentives to credit unions that perform four basic marketing requirements:
- Send out a quarterly insert once per year.
- Publish an article in the credit union newsletter twice a year (can be just a one- or two- sentence “blurb” directing them to the Sprint CU member site)
- Continuously display Sprint marketing materials in branches (either lobby posters with take-homes or placement in your continuous-feed plasma video).
- Add the approved web link to the credit union website.
The program is easy to implement and there is no cost for participation. All marketing material is provided free of charge.
Bear in mind that we are not trying to put you in the cell phone business; you are merely informing your members of the Sprint Credit Union Member Discount program—Sprint’s largest in the nation. So far, more than 1.3 million credit union members have signed up to receive their discount, saving over $124 million on their monthly recurring cell phone charges.
Credit union members are eligible to receive a 10 percent discount on most Sprint service plans, as well as a waived activation fee on new activations and a waived upgrade fee. Corporate accounts receive a 15 percent discount. The discount is available to both new and existing Sprint customers.
