Every year, Wine on the Willamette raises thousands of dollars for Credit Unions for Kids and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The fundraiser is a favorite in the credit union industry because it features a cruise past Portland’s downtown skyline to Lake Oswego and the opportunity to taste some hard-to-get boutique wines.
Tickets are still available for the event, which is scheduled for Sept. 9, 2011, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Wine on the Willamette is being held on the Willamette Star, a 98-foot yacht, and will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres paired with boutique wines from Europe, Australia, California and the Northwest. Ice wines and champagnes are included this year as well, according to event organizers, who are particularly excited to welcome Oregon winemaker Patricia Green aboard. She will visit personally with attendees who stop by to sip her famed pinot noir.
“The Credit Unions for Kids Wine on the Willamette fundraiser has become an annual signature event for our kids,” said Patricia E. Smith, President/CEO at Unitus. “It’s an exciting Willamette River cruise, where leaders of the credit union industry enjoy great food, wine, music and great company while doing good things for our kids.”
Smith noted that the fundraiser benefits Credit Unions for Kids and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Wines are available for purchase during the cruise, and 25 percent of those proceeds also benefit the children’s causes. Artwork prepared by patients at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital patients will be offered at a silent auction.
Guests will be treated to a live concert performance by John Nilsen, the popular local pianist, guitarist, songwriter and recording artist who has sold over 800,000 records.
Following the event, guests are invited to another reception at Departure Lounge atop the glamorous Nines Hotel, where cocktails, refreshments and a sweeping view will complete a memorable evening.
More information is available on the event’s website, which offers online registration.
