Calling All Oregon Golfers!

Building relationships during campaign and election season is vital to moving our legislative strategies forward. The Association often looks for credit union advocates throughout the Northwest to attend events and fundraisers for elected officials and candidates. Participants’ involvement can range from delivering a PAC check on behalf of credit unions or just playing in a golf tournament as a representative of the credit union movement. The important thing is to continue to subtly show grassroots support for credit unions.

The first of two upcoming opportunities for political networking and grassroots advocacy is scheduled for next week. Each year, the leadership for the Oregon House and Senate host annual golf tournaments, and participation from our industry is particularly important, as most of the major trade associations around the state will attend. The season’s first such event is set to take place on Monday, August 22, at the McNary Golf Club in Keizer, Ore.

Co-Speaker Bruce Hanna, House Republican Leader Kevin Cameron and members of the Republican caucus will be on hand for an afternoon of golf, dinner and prizes. Check-in begins at noon and will be followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m., with dinner and an awards ceremony kicking off at 5:30 p.m. to cap off the event.

The second event is hosted by the Senate Republican Caucus and is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Indian Creek Golf Course in Hood River, Ore. If you would like to play and represent credit unions at either of these events, please contact Pam Leavitt at pleavitt@nwcua.org or 503-887-2336.
