The Oregon and Washington Credit Union Foundations (OCUF, WCUF) have distributed nearly $60,000 to credit union professionals this summer in keeping with their mission to support and promote credit union development. The foundations have distributed $150,000 back to credit unions in 2011.
During its cycle 2 giving period, WCUF awarded 16 professional development scholarships totaling $10,544. WCUF has now funded 79 scholarships totaling $73,493, including $24,100 for 14 Western CUNA Management School (WCMS) scholarships.
Additionally, WCUF’s Grants Committee gave out five awards, totaling $21,200.
The Oregon foundation, which accepts applications throughout the year, has granted $27,594 since May.
“The impact and reach of the Oregon Credit Union Foundation is expansive,” said OCUF Executive Director Danielle Brown. “We remain dedicated to offering financial literacy initiatives, professional development opportunities, small credit union and international credit union development support, and disaster relief for credit union communities.”
These funds are hugely appreciated by the recipients, particularly during a time of tight budgets, and help professionals reach their full potential.
“There are only a handful of moments one wants to ‘frame’ in life… they are precious and indefinitely engraved in your heart,” said recent WCMS graduate, Helen Funk of Rogue FCU. “Thank you to everyone at Western CUNA Management School and the [foundations] for investing in my career and enhancing my life. In three short years, my understanding of the credit union movement has exponentially grown and I will be a CU champion for life. “
The foundations signaled the intent to merge earlier this year.
