Numerica Credit Union Chief Executive Officer Announced
The Numerica Credit Union Board of Directors recently
announced the appointment of Carla Altepeter as the credit union’s new Chief Executive Officer.

Altepeter has served as president/CEO of CitizensFirst Credit Union in Oshkosh, Wis., since 1992. She will officially begin at Numerica on Sept. 1. Cutter explained that her commitment to the community was most appealing to the board of directors.

Altepeter serves on various local and national boards and committees.  At the state level she serves as vice chair of the Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation Board of Directors and vice chair of the Wisconsin Credit Union Review Board.  She is a past member of the Wisconsin Credit Union League Governmental Affairs Committee and a member and past vice chair of the CUES Wisconsin Council. 

At the national level, Altepeter was a past board member of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). She currently serves on the board and is a past chair of the Credit Union Executive Society (CUES) and has been a CUES delegate to the World Council of Credit Unions in 2008 and 2009.  She was inducted into the CUES Hall of Fame in 2010. 

TAPCO Credit Union Names New CEO
Carlyn Roy has been
selected as TAPCO Credit Union’s Chief Executive Officer. 

Most recently Mrs. Roy was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at OSU Federal Credit Union (FCU) located in Corvallis, Oregon.  Prior to joining OSU FCU, she was Vice President of Lending Services at the Oregon Credit Union League where she developed and led one of the first credit union lending call centers in the country and the Oregon branch of a national mortgage corporation servicing credit unions.

She is a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University and Western CUNA Management School.

TAPCO Credit Union has a long and rich history in Pierce County. Founded in 1934 by nine City of Tacoma employees, TAPCO has grown to over 25,000 members.

New CFO for Harborstone Credit Union
Laurie Leno has been named chief financial officer of Harborstone Credit Union. She has 25 years of credit union experience, most recently as CFO of Prevail Credit Union.

OSU Federal promotes Heile-Brown to Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer
Rhonda Heile-Brown has been promoted to the position of Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer with OSU Federal, Your Community Credit Union. She has more than 30 years of financial institution experience, the last eight years as the Vice President for Branch Services at the credit union.

Heile-Brown has been with OSU Federal for 12 years total and started in the financial industry in 1978.  All of her experience has been here in the Willamette Valley and Oregon coast. She has served as a President of her local Rotary club and the Consumer Credit Counseling, Inc. of Linn and Benton County, and as a board member of Community Outreach, Inc.

OSU Federal promotes Gibson to Vice President for Branch Services
Jim Gibson has been promoted to the position of Vice President for Branch Services with OSU Federal, Your Community Credit Union. Jim, a 23-year veteran of the financial institution industry, has served as OSU Federal’s Benton/Linn/Lincoln Regional Branch for the past four years and has six years total with the credit union.

Gibson replaces Rhonda Heile-Brown, who just accepted the position of Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer with OSU Federal.

Gayda named STCU vice president-branches
Longtime employee Patsy Gayda has been named Spokane Teachers Credit Union’s (STCU’s) vice president-branches.

Gayda joined the credit union as a teller in 1985, rising through the ranks to become director of branch operations in 2004. In that position, she was instrumental in opening STCU’s U-District, Post Falls, Northtown Square, Liberty Lake, Silver Lake and Northtown Square branches.

New Financial Advisor at Sound Credit Union
Sound Credit Union announced the newest addition to their CFS* Financial Advising team, Scott Thompson.

Scott has worked in the financial services industry since 1998 and offers a breadth of knowledge in financial planning, offering businesses and individuals information and advice on retirement plans, deferred compensation plans, and employee benefits.  Members at Sound’s Auburn, Downtown Tacoma, Federal Way, Gig Harbor, Key Center, and Westgate branches can meet with Scott to discuss their financial goals at no-cost or obligation to them.

MountainCrest Credit Union CEO to Retire
MountainCrest Credit Union
announced the retirement of its President & CEO, Bob Schumacher, effective January 15, 2012.

Schumacher’s 34-year credit union career began with CUNA and Affiliates in 1977 where he worked for a short time in the Convention Services area before moving into the National Advertising Program, eventually serving as its director. He worked for the Washington and Florida Credit Union Leagues/service corporations, and a mortgage CUSO. He has also worked as a consultant with many credit unions over the years.

Harvey Rides Off into Sunset
After almost 19 years at the helm of Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union and 40 years in the banking world, SMCU President and CEO Bob Harvey
announced his retirement in April.

During his tenure, the credit union has added five new branches and completed two mergers. Harvey has been extremely active in the credit union community. He also served as board chair of WesCorp and the African American Credit Union Coalition, as well as a council director for the Credit Union Executive Society (CUES) and a lecturer for the California Credit Union League and Credit Union National Association.

Obituary: Robert Leland Noel
Robert “Bert” Noel of Tacoma, Wash., born June 5, 1941, passed away on July 11, 2011.

Bert worked in the credit and loan business in Yakima, where he met his wife Carol. They moved to Tacoma where he managed the Credit Union of Puget Sound for many years. He also served in the Air Force in his early years.

He is survived by Carol Noel, his wife of 41 years, his son Phillip Noel, his daughter and son-in-law Alan and Victoria Parliman, and his two granddaughters Sara Parliman and Kayla Noel.

Obituary: Jim Huggins
Jim Huggins, former CEO of American Lake Credit Union,
passed away on July 12, 2011.

Jim started his career with ALVA Federal Credit Union in January 1983. The credit union thrived under Jim’s leadership and vision. He implemented the VISA program, online banking, and oversaw the construction of the credit union branch at American Lake in 1988. He successfully engineered the merger of ALVA FCU and Minutemen CU in 1999, creating what is now known as American Lake Credit Union.

Obituary: Wallace “Wally” Erickson
Wallace “Wally” Erickson passed away July 9, 2011 at the age of 87. He was born March 19, 1924 in Everett, Washington. Wally grew up in Lake Stevens, Wash., son of Otto Alfred Erickson and Ruth Irene Erickson (Carlson).

During his two-and-a-half year of Army service during World War II, he was wounded twice and awarded the Silver Star for Gallantry in Action. Returning home, he went to work for Puget Sound Power and Light as a meter reader, retiring 33 years later as Internal Auditor of the Snohomish County PUD. Along the way he started, and managed for many years, the PUD Credit Union.

New Branch for Unitus
Unitus Community Credit Union will be relocating its Mall 205 branch to a new, larger location less than a mile away from the current location. The new Unitus Mall 205 branch will be located right next to Target and Tuesday Morning at 1052 SE 96th Avenue in Southeast Portland. The entire Unitus Mall 205 staff will be moving to the new location when it opens in late July.

New Branch for Advantis
Advantis Credit Union today announces the opening of a new community branch at NE 15th and Fremont in Portland next to Whole Foods. Advantis, which was just named the number one credit union in the nation for returning financial value to its members, serves communities throughout the greater Portland market. The NE Portland location is the credit union’s 5th branch.

As part of a community-wide celebration of the new branch, Advantis invites members, friends and neighbors to visit the branch and enter to win a trip to Hawaii, custom bicycle or a $500 gift certificate to Whole Foods. Advantis introduces itself to the neighborhood by sponsoring Movies in the Park on Friday nights at Irving Park as well as the Alberta Street Fair in August.

Yakima Valley Credit Union Unveils its Newly Remodeled Westside Branch
Yakima Valley Credit Union (YVCU) will hold an Open House at its newly remodeled Westside Branch, August 1-5.  Door prize drawings, tours, and refreshments will be available.  The branch is located at 122 North 50th Avenue, Yakima, WA.  This is the first remodel of its kind for Yakima Valley Credit Union.

Thursday, August 4 at 1:00 p.m. as part of its weeklong Open House celebration the community is invited to an unveiling ceremony to hear from President/CEO, Mina Worthington, about the new features of the branch while enjoying light refreshments.  The remodeled branch offers cutting edge technology with new cash dispensing machines, the Credit Union’s first deposit-taking ATM, and much more. 

The branch is managed by Cori Hammermeister.  Cori has been with the Credit Union for over 10 years and has been the Branch Manager of the Westside Office since June 2008.

New Board of Pierce County Chapter of Credit Unions Elected
Pierce County Chapter of Credit Unions
announced the results of its election for its volunteer board of directors.  All board members are employees of credit unions that have a branch or office in Pierce County.  The new PCCCU Board of Directors are:
