Ferris Bueller, the main character of the eponymous “Day Off” movie, said: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop to look around every once in awhile, you might miss it.”
It certainly has been moving quickly for Danielle Brown since the Northwest Credit Union Association formed in January of this year.
Brown, who now oversees the Association’s member relations program, ensures credit unions in Oregon and Washington are getting what they need, heads the affiliation push, and educates new executives about the benefits of affiliation.
“As our philosophy says, credit unions are ‘people helping people,'” explained Brown. “Association Staff have worked hard to bring an enhanced value of affiliation to Northwest credit unions by providing them with the products, services, and resources they need to compete in a crowded and competitive financial services marketplace.”
Brown also serves as the executive director of the Oregon Credit Union Foundation, which is in discussions to merge with its Washington counterpart. Since 2004, she has served on the State Credit Union Foundation Executive Committee, a national network of 30 individual state credit union foundations. Brown was elected as its chair in 2007. She currently serves as Secretary on the National Credit Union Foundation’s Board of Directors.
While it has been busy, the scope and speed of the job are nothing new for Danielle, who has been part of the credit union culture in Oregon for decades. Since 1996, she oversaw operations for the Association’s predecessor in Oregon, include the Education, Administration, and IT departments and all accounting functions for CUAO and its subsidiaries.
Brown knows what credit unions and their leaders need from their association. In addition to working for two credit unions early in her career, Brown was an instructor for credit union courses at Mt. Hood Community College and is one of more than 1,000 credit union professionals in the country and abroad to have earned the Credit Union Development Educator (CUDE) designation.
During the upcoming months, Association focus will be on connecting with credit unions through town hall meetings and the upcoming Convention & Annual Business Meeting.
Though life is moving fast, Danielle also knows how to stop and look around. An avid scuba diver, she visited 12 countries in her spare time.
“As a diver, you are weightless and free as you move in three dimensions in a fluid environment. Two-thirds of the world’s beauty is under water, and I’m thankful I have had the opportunity to see so much of it through diving.”
She has plunged into work at the new association, and the results are there for all to see.
