Association Hires AVP Heider, Increase Focus on Communications

Just in time for the next stage in the interchange regulatory process, the Association has hired Lynn Heider as the new AVP of Communications to oversee the department and ensure the credit union message gets out to the press and the public.

“We are thrilled to have Lynn come aboard,” said Association President Troy Stang. “With her wealth of media experience, she understands how issues go from simple press releases to news stories, which will help us in expounding the credit union difference.”

Heider is a four-time television News Director in top-50 markets.  She  served most recently in that capacity at KOIN-TV, the CBS Affiliate in Portland. Over the years, her teams won numerous national and regional awards and grew audience share on air and on line. She also worked in the field as a reporter.

“Credit unions offer both the personal touch and professional services members value, and unlike the big Wall Street banks, have continued to perform well for American families,” said Heider. “It’s an honor to help to communicate their message. I am excited to be part of this very effective team.”

The Association has redoubled its efforts in communications to address the awareness gap that continues to dog the credit union industry. This will include new focus on media and public relations, both on behalf of the Association and its members.

Some of the services the Communications Department offers to credit unions include:

  • The biweekly newsletter, Anthem;
  • Media outreach spread the word about credit unions to reporters and the public;
  • Media support in the event of negative news such as press releases, talking points, and strategies;
  • Help with internal communications in the event of mergers, robberies, etc.; and
  • News monitoring to ensure credit unions are not surprised by reporters/news.
