Three Northwest credit union professionals were among the graduates of the intensive Credit Union Development Education (CUDE) Training held at the University of Wisconsin campus in Madison, Wis.
Among the 42 new Development Educators (DEs) were: Angie Cayot, Southwest Bridge Corporate FCU in Oregon; Vivian Valencia, Verity Credit Union in Washington; and Northwest Credit Union Association President Troy Stang.
The DE program promotes the credit unions’ seven cooperative principles and the philosophy of “People Helping People” through interactive education and professional networking.
During the week-long program, participants learned from visiting speakers and completed team projects proposing solutions for credit unions to help alleviate or eliminate challenging situations in any given area.
“The CUDE program was a great experience and full of inspiring people,” said Cayot. “This week rejuvenated my love for working in the credit union movement.”
The new DEs come from all over the world, with representatives from Ghana in attendance. Over the past 29 years, more than 1,000 credit union advocates from over 30 countries have graduated from DE Training. The growing corps of credit union advocates devotes professional and volunteer time to spreading the credit union message to audiences throughout the country.
The National Credit Union Foundation is the primary sponsor of the DE program. Support is provided by CUNA Mutual Group, the Credit Union National Association, the World Council of Credit Unions, state foundations—including the Oregon and Washington Credit Union Foundations, and leagues and associations—including the Northwest Credit Union Association.
