The Boards at Catholic Credit Union and Yakima Valley Credit Union are exploring the benefits of a merger between the two organizations, marking the first formal step in the merger process. Both credit unions have determined the merger will create additional value for members of their respective organizations.

Independently strong, federally insured, and well-capitalized credit unions in excellent financial condition, the two credit unions combined would have approximately $460 million in assets, employ approximately 150 local residents, and service the needs of close to 50,000 members through its 8 full service branch locations. A final decision to move forward on the merger is contingent upon a member vote and regulatory approval, and that is expected by mid-2011.


The National Credit Union Foundation Board of Directors has unanimously elected Gary Oakland, President & CEO of BECU in Seattle, Wash., as its new Chairman. Laida Garcia, President & CEO of Floridacentral Credit Union in Tampa, Fla., was elected Vice Chairman. The election took place during NCUF’s 2011 annual meeting on January 19 in Tampa, Fla.

Oakland succeeds Allan Kemp McMorris, President & CEO of Oakland County Credit Union in Waterford, Mich., as chairman, who stepped down after three years but will remain on the board.


The TwinStar Credit Union board of directors selected Jeff Kennedy as President effective February 1, 2011. Kennedy’s selection concludes a two year CEO succession program overseen by TwinStar’s board.

Kennedy will succeed TwinStar’s current President & CEO, Marshall Ellison, who will retain his role as CEO until retiring in June 2012.

Kennedy joined TwinStar in 1985. His experience includes management of lending, collections, facilities, mortgage lending, branch operations, administration and business services, among others. Kennedy’s current position is Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer.


Numerica Credit Union recently announced that Petra Wilkinson would transfer to the Coeur d’Alene branch as branch manager, effective Jan. 3.

Wilkinson has worked in the banking industry since 1986. She started with Wells Fargo, made a few other moves within the financial industry, and was eventually introduced to credit unions. She soon earned the position of branch manager for Patelco Credit Union in the San Francisco Bay Area.


Robyn Stengle was recently promoted to director of training and talent development for STCU. In her new position, Stengle will oversee organizational training and leadership development at STCU. She is the immediate past-president of the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery Funding and Development Board, as well as president of the Vanessa Behan Auxiliary. Stengle joined the staff at STCU in 1998.

Jessica Walters recently joined the real estate team at STCU – serving as lending center assistant manager. She is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the Loan Origination and Indirect Lending Department. Prior to STCU, Walters worked for Banner Bank.
