Credit Unions and Community Development: Lessons and Impact

We are hosting two sessions, one in Oregon on June 27 and the other in Washington on June 28, and we hope you will be able to join us for either event!

These special trainings, organized in partnership with the Northwest Credit Union Association will feature experts in community finance issues and showcase best practices in this field.

The Federation is the credit union authority in community development and CDFI issues, having played a key role in the creation of the CDFI Fund in the early 90's. Today, the Federation is the only national advocate and representative for the over 200 credit unions that are currently certified as CDFIs or have a primary mission of community development. Since inception, the CDFI Fund has provided more than $1 billion to CDFIs, including nearly $120 million in grants to credit unions.

CDFI-certified credit unions now represent 23% of the CDFI industry (a historic high). This unique educational opportunity will explore the impact of credit unions on the overall industry and on the communities they serve.

This event is designed to help credit unions gain a better understanding of the:

  • Benefits of CDFI Certification and Low-Income Designation;
  • Resources available to strengthen your capacity to serve the underserved;
  • Innovative programs to help you meet the needs of Low- to Moderate-Income consumers;
  • Benefits and value of community partnerships to leverage & expand your service to the underserved;
